I can't think of a third

My wife and I came up with a game where you list two movie titles with something common between the first two, then announce that you can't think of a third. It is then up to the other participant to determine what is common with the frist two movies and say what the third is.

Here is my challenge to you— the first list is easy, and the second is nearly impossible:

  1. Joe and the Volcano
  2. You've Got Mail
  3. And I can't think of a third
  1. The man with one Red Shoe
  2. The Burbs
  3. And I can't think of a third

The problem with that last one is that there really isn't a third. But I will give you a clue as to a way to connect the first list with the second and come up with the bonus third. Both lists have a common actor playing opposite another. If you can figure out which movie has the two opposites playing in the same movie together you have won.

In order to be fair, I am going to turn on Comment Moderation. I will post comments that don't include guesses. Then on Friday I will post all of the guesses (if there are any) and let the winner know they won.

Ooh ooh-Sleepless in Seattle on the first. Since I've haven't seen the Red Shoe, and only vaguely remember the Burbs I've got nothin on the second one.

ARRRGH stooopid blogger ate my first answer. Now I have to type it again. ARG!

Anyway....this is easy-peasy.

Tom Hanks is the recurring actor in all four movies. The first two "Volcano" and "Mail" were played opposite Meg Ryan, which of course makes the third movie "Sleepless in Seattle". I absolutely adore those two in movies together; they have the best screen chemistry ever. Besides, "Mail" and "Sleepless" are two of my all-time favorite movies.

The other two are Tom Hanks opposite Carrie Fisher. You're right; I don't think there is a third.

Sheesh this was easy for me. I LOVE Tom Hanks movies. My other favorite Hanks movie is "Big."

Thank you all for participating. I've turned comment moderation off.

To quote Shawshank Redemption: "And if you've come this far, maybe you're willing to come a little further."

Yes, both lists have Tom Hanks in them. But can you name the movie that his co-stars both stared in together? I'll give you a hint-- I always got that movie mixed up with Sleepless (Probably because they were written by the same person).

Didya get my 2nd answer? The one that ties it together is "When Harry Met Sally." :) Love that movie, too. That one had Meg Ryan and Carrie Fisher in it. Meg Ryan of course was a co-star with Tom in the first list; Carrie Fisher was the co-star with Tom in the second list. ;)
