Tuesday will be your lucky day

When I was in High School I was riding with my sister who upon seeing a car with one headlight turned to me and said: "pick a day of the week"— to which I replied: "Tuesday", then she said: "then Tuesday will be your lucky day". I don't know why… but every time after that I've always picked Tuesday as my lucky day.

Being the detail oriented person that I am I have to try and quantify the ritual and determine if the right or left light being out has any significance on the luck granted— or if the slate gets wiped clean after a lucky day occurred. The same adherence to the ritual I also apply to fortune cookies— does seeing your fortune immediately when you open the cookie make any difference if your fortune comes true or not.

I don't consider myself to be a superstitious person, but I always wondered if any Tuesdays were lucky for me. Looking back on the lucky days in my life I never saw any that occurred on a Tuesday— meeting my wife (Sunday)… proposing to my wife (Saturday)… marrying her (Saturday again)… you get the picture. But now I can say that both my luck and fortune were granted on a Tuesday. That was the day that we were fortunate to not have our townhouse burn down… and lucky enough to not have any damages because of it. If you want to read the details you can read my post Kitchen Sink-Gate which hopefully explains things better.

I will still wish on cars with one headlight out and still say "Tuesday" to myself even if all of those previous wishes were granted that particular Tuesday.

I'm a new visitor but wanted to say that I am happy that you were safe and free from harm from the house fire!

You make your own luck. That's what I think. Even in the case of the fire. Your wife was attentive and on the ball enough to get the proper help there in time. I will admit that a fire still could have gotten out of control quickly, especially when they were looking for the source like that. But I still believe that over-all luck is self-made.

I believe in a certain amount of luck and perhaps good timing. I do think I am responsible for my own chooses. But if you win the lottery that's just plain luck.

Maybe you don't recognize the good luck because, except for the fire, your good luck is simply the absence of bad luck?

I believe in luck. Haven't quite heard of the car with a light out thing but...

but do you have to read the fortune to claim it? all those fortune cookies that have gone straight in the trash (ignore the fact that i am wasteful)... were they all meant for me? one for each member of my family? only for those that ate all their moo goo gai pan? am i living out any of those fortunes today or did i pass them over by not choosing one, opening it and reading it (and then believing it)?

maybe the headlight from way back when meant the particular tuesday of the fire... not the immediate tuesday following the sighting?

regardless, i am glad you and your wife are safe and your home is intact.

man, I am so glad that your house didn't burn down! as for a lucky day, I think any day that I don't die or kill anyone else is pretty good, so they are all lucky!

When looking at other people's oddities, they seem so strange. When looking at my own, they seem so normal! You are a funny man.

I do believe in luck but I think that it's almost like we attract the luck to ourselves. :)

What could a Tuesday have that makes it fortunate? It could be a person wishing it were so. May all your Tuesday wishes come true.
