Tuesday's Tribute: Ivan The Great

In honor of Tuesday's tribute I am highlighting poetry and how arranging words according to simple patterns can have such a profound effect on both the reader and the author.

This is one of those poems where the first letter of each line spells out something. This particular poem spells out what the poem is about— as well as the name of the poem itself:

I am Ivan the Great
victory is my only mate.

an unbeatable man upon the field
no soul can challenge my dauntless shield.

To fight the battle beneath the sun
however challenging 'til I have won
ever more I fight until they're done.

Gallant journeys I make
rowing from shore to shore.

endless treasures to take
and makes me all the more…

to always store my endless hate.

That is fantastic! We are working on this in school right now. I just asked my son to do one for a family member that he admires.

Great work!

Very cool tribute - quite original as you always are. But I have to say those damn jelly beans were quite distracting as I tried to read about Ivan and well, you know NOT surrender to me Lenten deal - no sweets for me!! :-) I know it's so simple and whatever but I tell you, I think about it A LOT in the course of a day and helps to focus where I'm at.

So maybe I can't read you anymore during Lent...

Just kidding. I'll be back!

Happy Tuesday!

i'm impressed. probably because i hate poetry, have never understood it, and can't write it. i always hated that question from the teacher "and what did this author mean when he said blah blah blah?" i just don't get the whole symbolism thing. if you want to say something just come straight out and say it.
