The other day, my wife asked me "What do you wish for for Christmas". Knowing full well that she had something in mind herself— I reversed the question to her and this is what I got:
"I wish I could go to one of those Office Christmas Parties they have on the movies from the 50's". I know what she means. If any of you have ever seen those Office Christmas Parties from Desk Set and The Apartment you know what she means too.
How many Office Parties have you gone to where everybody is drinking, nobody is working— people are out in the copy room making out, etc. etc.? I must admit that I have not ever attended one of those— but I have had some nice ones over the years. The best one I went to was when they put us on a boat for a dinner cruise.
I think that due to Political Correctness and Sexual Harassment— those parties are now a thing of the past. In fact— a lot of them are no longer even called Christmas Parties. More like "A Celebration of the Cold Weather" but even that may be offending too.
As I like a good story— any of you have great Office Parties that you have attended. Any great stories to tell about them… Do tell.

We played Rock Band at my husband's work party last week. We got some great video footage of his boss singing his heart out to some crazy song. It might be fun for this video to be introduced during a business meeting at some point next year...
Our office is real small so we just went out to eat a nice restaurant and had fun together at a place that wasn't the office. It was nice.
i've been to some pretty rowdy ones over the years. but i have noticed that they are getting more and more scaled back, although there always manages to be at least one person that goes a little too far either drinking, karaokeing, flirting, fighting, or all of the above. luckily it has been YEARS since that person was me! merry early christmas!
HA!! I just watched Desk Set last night while I baked. Classic. I've never seen anything like that off of the silver screen. Something about it does look quite romantic, but I have the feeling it wouldn't quite play the same in real life. Plus, I guess to really enjoy it, I'd need to be single, somewhat loose, and willing to drink alcohol ... ;o)
I've never worked in an office, but I have seen The Apartment and Desk Set.
We had a few Christmas parties (after the new year because we're too busy before Christmas). Things have been known to get wild though. Maybe that's why we don't have them any more.
I think you're right - the 'fun' office Christmas parties seem to be a thing of the past. ;)
Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas! :)
We had a Christmas Disco Bash for over 100 employees and spouses and spent $0. We did it all in trade. We traded the main entree (employees brought their favorite dessert), DJ, linens, for future rentals for the companies. It was a blast! (And no drinking or sexual harassment involved.) We had skits and karaoke after a buffet dinner. The parties helped to build unity among employees.
