In and up and around the letter K

Sometime in my senior year of high school I came to the realization that all the girls I knew had their first names start with the letter K— or were only one letter off. I guess you become obsessed with statistics and patterns at a given age— and I was not immune to it.

I knew all kinds of J names:

  • Jamie
  • Jan
  • Janine
  • Jean
  • Jeannie
  • Jenifer
  • Jenni
  • Jill
  • Jody
  • Joni

And I think I knew probably every combination of Laura:

  • Lara
  • Larna
  • Laura
  • Lauren
  • Laurie
  • Lora
  • Lori

Not only did I know a lot of K names, but many of them I knew in multiples:

  • Kara
  • Karen
  • Kathleen
  • Kathryn
  • Kathy
  • Kelly
  • Kim
  • Kimberly
  • Kirsten
  • Kristin

In fact… I even dated someone to whom I nick-named "K" (but I'll save that for another post).

Do you notice any patterns to the people you know?

All of my high school friends were short - like 5'0" and under. So I always thought of myself as being tall, or at least average. Imagine my shock when I realized that at 5'2" I'm actually of below average height - BUMMER!

There were two other girls that shared my name, which really isn't that common, but apparently it was in my graduating class. We were never really friends, but there was always that tie. So that whenever I run in to one of them now they always fill me in on what the third has been up to. Weird.

In my family, we have all M names and J names. Anne MARIE, Michael, Marty, Margaret (nicknamed Peggy). Then we have Jeanne (really Regina), Joanie, Johnny and Jimmy.

Another pattern was all the makes were born in winter and spring and all the girls in summer and fall.

Marty, January
Dad, February
Jimmy, March
Johnny, April
Michael, May

Anne Marie, August
Jeanne, Joanie and Mom, September
Peggy, October.
