While waiting to ride the train at Kiddieland I took the following photo:
I rather like the fact that the barbed wire shows up in front of the sign— gives it a sense of ominousness. Are there any nostalgic places that you remember as a child that are no longer around?

Wooden see saws, never see them in parks anymore, probably too dangerous!
I remember going to an ice cream place called the Milky Way (this was the late 80s) and getting the tootsie pops. And if you had a wrapper with an Indian shooting a star---you'd get a free one. Now that I don't go to that place anymore, it seems like every wrapper I find has that Indian.
Looks like exactly the picture I would have taken!
I remember the France Avenue Drive In. At night there were movies and during the day on the weekends there was a flea market. It was awesome. But, they tore it down years ago to make room for new developments. :-(
Well, Mom was a bit disappointed to find all her favourite haunts were no longer round( 'course, she'd been gone for over 30 years! )things change, yes?
When I went badk "home" to Texas it had changed so much - for a minute I don't know why, but I felt like I had aged very quickly in a short span of time
A photo with another meaning.
I remember an amusement park that my parents use to take us to. It was always a lot of fun but closed down by the time I became a teenager.
Go to you tube and look up Bertrands Island Amusement Park! That was my childhood amusement park that was turned into condos in the 80's.
@Sara Lulu… I nearly cried when I saw they removed the top of the monkey bar set I used to play on at my grade-school playground. Of course I was in college, so it really shouldn't have mattered.
@barbaloot… I know what you mean about getting the Indian. It used to be the think to find, much like green M&M's.
@Raven… I do not think that any of the Drive-in's I remember going to are around anymore, let alone any at all.
@subtorp77… Yes, things do change— except for the fact that all things change.
@Tony… They say you never go home again. Sounds like you summed it up perfectly.
@Maria, @otin… Funny how a lot of our childhood haunts disappear by the time we reach adulthood.
Thanks all for your great comments.
I miss the drive-in. Seems they are ALL gone. Love the pic!
There was a place in Chicago called Old Chicago. It was an amusement park with rides and roller coasters, etc. but it was all enclosed inside a building. I thought it was the coolest thing but it's gone.
We had a place called Enchanted Forest that we went to when I was a toddler/preschooler. It was such a sweet little park. It was based around fairy tale/ storybook characters. I remember feeling like I was getting lost in a book. Plus they had a really cool mountain slide there. Unfortunately, it closed down, but a local farm took some of the old broken down pieces and refurbished them. I thought that was pretty cool. At least a part of this special place survived.
